GAZA – The militant group Hamas has issued a strong rejection of an international resolution concerning the future of the Gaza Strip, denouncing it as an attempt to impose “international guardianship” and separate the territory from the rest of the Palestinian land.
In a scathing statement released late on Tuesday, Hamas asserted that the resolution “doesn’t come close to meeting the political or humanitarian rights of our Palestinian people,” claiming the territory has endured “two full years of brutal genocide and unprecedented crimes carried out by the terrorist occupation.”
The group stated that the resolution effectively sets up a mechanism to achieve the “occupation’s goals” which it failed to achieve through its recent “genocidal war.”
A central point of contention is the perceived imposition of external control. Hamas explicitly stated that both its members and the wider Palestinian populace “refuse” any international guardianship system over Gaza.
Furthermore, the statement argues that the resolution is designed to “create new realities far from our people’s principles and legitimate national rights,” claiming it strips Palestinians of their right to self-determination and the establishment of a state with “Quds [Jerusalem] as its capital.”
Addressing the issue of militant capabilities, Hamas reiterated its stance on armed resistance. The group insisted that “resisting the occupation by all means is a legitimate right guaranteed by international laws and treaties.”
Hamas said the weapons used by the resistance are directly tied to the “existence of the occupation itself.”
Any discussion regarding these weapons, the statement contends, must remain an “internal national issue linked to a political path that ensures ending the occupation, establishing the state, and achieving self-determination.”
