Two teenage thugs are facing lengthy stretches behind bars today after being convicted of a horrific, pre-planned arson attack that turned a bustling East London curry house, Grant Hill Indian Restaurant into a fiery death trap.
The depraved pair—both just 17 years old and legally anonymous due to their age—were found guilty of arson with intent to endanger life at the end of a dramatic seven-week trial at the Old Bailey.
The court heard how the cold-blooded duo orchestrated a night of absolute terror in Gants Hill, Ilford, which left two innocent diners fighting for their lives with critical burns and several others maimed.

The horrific incident unfolded on the evening of Friday, 22 August 2025, inside a popular local Indian restaurant. What should have been a relaxed weekend dinner for dozens of families and hard-working staff descended into a living nightmare.
Without warning, the two masked teenagers stormed the packed eatery.
The Terrorist-Style Siege: One of the yobs, brandishing a massive, gleaming machete, began aggressively taunting terrified customers who cowered under tables.
The Fire Starter: His accomplice, also armed with a deadly blade, systematically poured highly flammable petrol over the restaurant’s floor, furniture, and directly onto screaming diners.
The Ignition: With cold-blooded precision, the second teen held a taper and a lighter. Once the petrol doused the surfaces and victims, he lit the flame—igniting a massive fireball that instantly ripped through the establishment, trapping terrified diners inside.
Two people suffered catastrophic, life-changing burn injuries, while many others were rushed to hospital with severe wounds.

Following the attack, the ruthless pair fled the blazing inferno and piled into a stolen Toyota Prius waiting nearby.

Hundreds of hours of CCTV footage.
Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) camera data.
Mobile phone cell site data which tracked the suspects’ every move.

19:07 BST: The stolen Prius departs Peckham, South London, heading north of the river.
En Route: The vehicle stops near a supermarket in Barkingside. CCTV captures one defendant walking to a petrol station, where he steals several litres of fuel, filling up plastic canisters.
The Attack: The car drives directly to Gants Hill to unleash the devastating attack.
Caught Red-Handed
Within just two weeks, elite Met detectives located the hidden Toyota Prius. Inside the vehicle, officers hit a goldmine of forensic evidence, finding a plastic spout belonging to one of the petrol canisters and key mobile devices.
When police raided the suspects’ addresses, they recovered incriminating clothing—including a balaclava and a pair of trainers—which perfectly matched the garments captured on high-definition CCTV.
Speaking after the verdict, Detective Inspector Emma Sharp, who led the investigation, praised the bravery of the victims:
”This group tried to outmanoeuvre the police and avoid the consequences of their pre-mediated violence, but today’s outcome showcases that our detectives can unravel multifaceted incidents to secure justice and take dangerous offenders off our streets.

The two teenagers have been remanded in custody and are scheduled to be sentenced at the Old Bailey on Friday, 2 October 2026, where they face lengthy custodial sentences.
