NOVGOROD, Russia – France today put up a superb performance to edge out the hard fighting Uruguay team 2-0. The first goal came in the 40th minutes when Raphael Varaine found back of the net after connecting a nice pass from Antoine Grizemann to send the 43, 319 spectators into wild jubilation.




The game ended 1-0 in the first half. Uruguay came into the second half very determined to equalize but France sealed up their hope in the 61 minutes when Antoine Grizemann connected a pass from Corentin Tollisso to put the scoreline at 2-0.

France had good control of the game with 57 ball posessession against 43 for Uruguay. Uruguay had 4 shots on target while France had just two proving that the Uruguay team had a very tight defence. Uruguay had 4 corner kicks, while France had just 2.

Uruguay had 8 goal kicks against 11 by France.
