TEXAS, United States – Not less than 46 dead bodies of immigrants have been found in a trailer parked along the road in Texas, United States.
The bodies were believed to be that of immigrants being smuggled through the Mexico-US border but died of suffocation and exhaustion, San Antonio Police Chief, Williams MacManus has said.
Officials of the San Antonio Fire Department said there was no sign of water in the truck, which was found next to railroad tracks in a remote area on the city’s southern outskirts.
Providing details of the dead bodies, the department said 16 other people found inside the trailer were transported to hospitals for heat stroke and exhaustion, including four minors, but that no children were among the dead.
“The patients that we saw were hot to the touch, they were suffering from heat stroke, exhaustion,” San Antonio Fire Chief Charles Hood told a news conference. “It was a refrigerated tractor-trailer but there was no visible working.
