Nigeria, July 7, 2016 – A former Presidential Aspirant in the All Nigerian Peoples Party (ANPP), Alhaji Umaru Shinkafi is dead. He was 79. The Marafan Sokoto died on Wednesday at the Harefield Hospital, Middlesex, London.
He was said to have suffered multiple organ failure.. He is survived by three wives, children and grandchildren.
The Late Shinkafi also ran as Vice President to Chief Olu Falae on the joint ticket of All Nigerian Peoples Party and Alliance for Democracy(APP/AD) in 1999.
He was head of the former Nigeria Security Organization (NSO) now Department of State Services (DSS) from 1979 to 1983.
Reacting to his death, President Muhammed Buhari described him as administrator and technocrat, an expert whose contributions to the development of the security architecture of Nigeria remains indelible, adding that others carried on where he left off.
The President recalls that the former Federal Commissioner of Internal Affairs and boss of the National Security Organisation (NSO), played frontline roles in the activities leading to the eventual return and enthronement of democracy in the country.
President Buhari prays that Almighty Allah will grant the soul of the departed eternal rest.
