LAGOS, Nigeria – The Nigerian Police Force(NPF) will soon embark on house to house search to retrieve firearms still in circulation ahead of the 20 19 general election. Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Police Command, Mr. Abimbola Oyeyemi made the revelation while speakingn on OGBC 2 FM Stereo in Ogun State.
He said the house to house search is in contunuation of the directive of the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris to mop up firearms across the federation. He said that the mop up exercise of fire arms has been very successful in his command and that over 2000 firearms have so far being retrieved by police in the zone. Oyeyemi said most of the arms were voluntarily surrendered by people to the command.
Oyeyemi added that as the 2019 election approaches, the police will embark on house to house search for firearms in continuation of the directive to mop up all the firearms in circulation.
He called on the people of Ogun state to give the police necessary information, adding that the job of protecting lives remains the job that has been given to them and that the police is ready to discharge thas responsibilility.
He said the the police should always be informed each time residents see strange faces and when there is a gathering that is likely to be inimical to law and order in the vicinity as part of security measures.
“You dont even need to go to the police station, you can send text messages to the DPO, that is why the numbers of DPOs are conspicously displayed in all police stations. So for Ogun State, if you see any incident please call the situation room on 08081770416, 08081770419. When you call these numbers, we will quickly call the police in that area to come to your rescue”, Abimbola Oyeyemi said.
