July 20, 2014 – Film actor and popular television star, Mr. James Garner is dead. He was 86. He died of natural causes. He had suffered ill health since 2008.

“Mr Garner died of natural causes,” the West LA Division of the Los Angeles Police Department told the BBC, adding he died on Saturday and that his body has been released to his family.

He was born April 7, 1928. He starred in several television series over more than five decades, which included such popular roles as Bret Maverick in the 1950s western-comedy series Maverick and Jim Rockford in the 1970s detective drama The Rockford Files.

He featured in more than 50 films including The Great Escape (1963), Paddy Chayefsky’s The Americanization of Emily (1964), Grand Prix (1966), Blake Edwards’ Victor Victoria (1982), Murphy’s Romance (1985) for which he received an Academy Award nomination, and The Notebook (2004).

He won an Emmy for the role in 1977 Rockford Files and starred in 122 episodes of the hugely successful show from 1974 to 1980.
