LAGOS, Nigeria – Residents and traders in parts of Lagos Island now live in fear as not less than eights people lost their lives in bloody clashes as boys from Onola and Okepopo engaged each other in free for all fight, using dangerous weapons.




Several others sustained fatal injuries during attacks and counter attacks by the miscreants. Traders, seems to be the most affected as most of the shops were looted during the clashes. An eye witness told our correspondent that boys from Okepopo area invaded Onola area on Friday night shortly after their point man, Falapa was released from police detenton.

“It was during the attack that the Okepopo boys shot and matcheted a boy who was sleeping inside Keke-Marwa at the front of Iga Faji to death while some other boys and a beggar from the north were seriously wounded during the invasion”, he narrated, noting that shortly after the attack, symphatisers grouped together and launched a counter-attack on Okepopo area where four boys who led the initial onslaught were killed.

But while many thought things were getting better, boys from Okepopo area again launched another attack on Sunday night but they met stiff resistance from Onola youths who ambushed them, leading to the death of another youths from Okepopo.

“The crisis seems to have overwhelmed policemen from Area ‘A’ command, Adeniji Adele, Jankara and Lion building puting into consideration the calibre of weapons used by the youths in the attacks. Besides, the boys launch their attacks within 10 to15 minutes when policemen patroling the area have returned to base”, one of the eye witness said.

So far, some of the rampaging youths have been arrested by policemen. When our correspondent went round the affected areas like Itafaji, Isale-gangan, Princess, Anikantamo, Evans, Massey, Okepopo, Koilo, Atiko and other adjacent streets, few shop owners opened for business. A combined team of policemen and military personnel were also spotted at Oshodi/Tokunboh junction on the Lagos Island though they were not in military uniform.
