Fashola Spends N2 Million Building One Public Toilet in Lagos

September 17, 2014 – Chairperson Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials (COWLSO), Dame Abimbola Fashola has said that the committee under her leadership generated over N100 million last year.

Fashola who was addressing a press conference in Lagos on the 14th national women conference said the money was spent on construction of schools in Epe, six public toilets and treatment of cancer patients.

“We realized over N100 million out of it we have done Epe, Epe has costs us over N35 million, schools building we are doing, each block of 6 classrooms we are doing cost us over N50 million and we have over 3 schools that we have done. We are renovating 6 toilets, each cost us N2 million and cancer patients N500,000 and I told you we had 87”, she said.

She explained that with the generous support of individuals and corporate organisations, she was able to record modest achievement in the implementation of projects.

According to her, COWLSO was able to commission a retirement villa at Lekki and youth recreational centres at Oworonshoki and Epe adding that the association also renovated Oncology department of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital and financed the treatment of 87 cancer patients with at least N500,000 spend on each one of them.

She noted that beside construction of schools and upgrading of public toilets, the group also donated financial and material support to 27 homes, orphanages and Non-governmental organisations in addition for sponsorship which she was able to secure for Niger wives (brail) and Down Syndrome Foundation.

She said that the theme for the year conference is embracing and managing change adding that the conference will open Monday September 22 and that it will be declared open by Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, while Oyo State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajumobi will close the conference on Wednesday September 24.

Among the subjects that will be discussed are preparing for succession which will be handled by Mr. Fola Adeola, Founder, FATE foundation. Other subjects that will be discussed are effective use of social media, energy conservation, child abuse, character: key to building our future, women and inheritance law, and other issues.
