Fashola Advocates Enduring Solution to Violence

May 12, 2015 – Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola has said that timely and accurate dispensation of justice is very key to eradication of violence in any society.

Fashola who spoke at the handover of Justice Samuel Ilori Court House at Ogba, Lagos  noted that there will be no need to take up alms to resolve dispute  if justice is dispensed in a civilized way.

“A society that is able to dispense justice will achieve so many things because in doing so we would be  ordering the society and controlling how the society develops. When we write judgement and hand out judgement, from after today, you will be enforcing laws that we made. That we can live by the rules that we’ve made. That we can dispense justice in a civilised way so that people do not result to arms as a measure or model for resolving disputes”, he said.

The governor added that dispensing justice in a civilised way will strengthen democracy since offenders including those who threaten society and democracy will be punished when it is necessary to do so.

Fashola explained that for any nation to develop, it has to ensure that adequate attention is paid to law and order.

According to the governor, no matter how expensive or beautiful the infrastructure put in place is, if law and order is neglected, there cannot be progress.

“For me, this is important because law and order will remain the  most single agenda that any nation can pursue. A nation that pursues law and other will achieve everything. No matter how beautiful the road we build, if we choose to ignore law and order, ultimately, our society cannot progress. So, it is important to pay attention to those charged with the responsibility to enforce laws and administer laws.”

In her address, Chief Judge of Lagos State, Hon. Olufunmilayo Atilade said the state judiciary will remain grateful to Fashola for enhancing the work environment of judicial officers with beautiful edifice, saying it will a help in speedy dispensation of justice.

“Today’s commissioning and handover attest yet again to the unshakeable commitment of the Lagos State Government to sustain infrastructure development in the state judiciary and to the improvement of justice delivery and justice administration in the state, an enduring legacy for which this administration will be remembered”, she said.

She called for more judicial officers and magistrate for speeding dispensation of justice.
