KANO PILLARS 1 – 0 REMO STARS
BY OUR SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT IN KANO
THE BRIGHTEST lights of Ikenne were dimmed in the heat of Kano today as Kano Pillars snatched a gritty 1-0 victory over the defending champions, Remo Stars.
In a match billed as a “clash of the constellations,” it was the home side who found the spark to leave the star-studded visitors wandering in the dark.
In front of a roaring crowd at the Sani Abacha Stadium, the “Sai Masu Gida” proved that while Remo might have the name, Pillars have the foundation.
The decisive moment came in the 57th minute when Luis Dadong turned hero, pouncing on a lapse in the Remo defense to fire home the only goal of the afternoon.
Remo Stars arrived in the North boasting the pedigree of champions but left looking like a side searching for their identity.
Despite the presence of big-name talent like Victor Mbaoma, the Sky Blue Stars struggled to break through a resilient Pillars backline that seemed determined to prove they still belong among the league’s elite.
The first half was a tense, tactical chess match, but as the sun dipped over Kano, the pressure from the home side intensified. When Dadong struck, the stadium erupted, and the “Stars” from the South simply had no answer.
RELEGATION RUMBLE
This wasn’t just about the three points; it was a battle for survival in an increasingly crowded NPFL table.
With both teams languishing in unfamiliar territory near the basement, Pillars’ victory acts as a massive oxygen boost for their campaign. For Remo Stars, the nightmare continues.
The champions have now suffered their 15th defeat of a disastrous season, leaving fans wondering how the mighty have fallen so far, so fast.
Kano Pillars: Akala, Usman, Abdullahi, Ali, Dadong (57’), Musa, Mustapha.
Remo Stars: Kolimba, Akinyele, Maduabuchi, Ibeh, Haruna, Mbaoma.
