IBADAN, Nigeria – Nigeria’s U-20 Women’s National Team, the Falconets, have sent a clear message to their rivals after a hard-fought 2-1 victory over top-flight side FC Robo.
The friendly, played under the heat of Ibadan, served as a high-stakes dress rehearsal for the team’s upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifier against Senegal.
The Falconets arrived in the city on January 27 to sharpen their talons, and if this performance is anything to go by, they are ready for battle.
While the match tested the team’s tactical execution, it was their mental toughness that stole the show.
After a grueling contest against the Nigeria Women Premier League heavyweights, the Falconets dug deep to find a late winning goal—a moment that left the coaching staff beaming.
Head Coach Moses Aduku praised his side’s refusal to settle for a draw, noting that their “fighting spirit” will be the X-factor when they face the Senegalese on Saturday.
”The way the girls responded to score the winning goal was very encouraging,” Aduku said.
“It showed character, resilience, and the determination not to relent in our quest to qualify.”
Despite the win, Aduku isn’t letting his squad get complacent. With the first-leg encounter scheduled for Saturday, February 7, at the Lekan Salami Stadium, the gaffer confirmed that “little adjustments” are still needed to ensure the team is airtight defensively and clinical upfront.
The road to Poland 2026 runs through Ibadan this weekend, and the Falconets have proven they have the heart to match their undeniable talent.
