WETZLAR, Hesse – An incendiary or explosive device has exploded outside a café in Wetzlar, Hesse.

No one was injured in the early morning, police said. Parts of the building were damaged.

The background to the incident is still unclear, the police explained.

According to the current state of the investigation, at least one perpetrator set off the incendiary or explosive device in front of the café and then fled.

Residents heard a loud bang at 4.39 a.m. and informed the police.

Residents have been evacuated in the meantime.

The residents of the building were initially evacuated, but have since been able to return to their flats.

The crime scene is being investigated and traces secured. Explosives technicians from the State Office of Criminal Investigation are also on site.
