April 25, 2015 – Two Nigerian soldiers were today killed in Central Plateau State when a truck load of ammunition they were conveying to where the ammunitions will be destroyed exploded midway.

Writing on his Facebook wall, a military spokesman,  Colonel Sani Usman said the ammunition have become unserviceable and were being transported to a remote location in the forest when it exploded in Plateau State.

He said one of the soldiers also sustained injuries in the explosion. “Some of the unserviceable ammunition exploded in the process of moving them to the demolition site in the bush”, Usman said on his Facebook page.

“Unfortunately, two soldiers lost their lives and one sustained injuries”, he said.

Nigerian soldiers have been battling members of the radical Islamic sect, Boko Haram in the North-east. The sect has killed over 15,000 people rending many homeless. But the Nigerian Armed Forces backed by a regional coalition force from Chad and Cameroun have decimated members of the sect putting them on the run in recent times.
