LAGOS, Nigeria – The youths of Nigeria under the auspices of #endSARS took courage to another level on Monday, December 7, 2020 when they made good their vow to return to the streets of Lagos and Abuja in protest seeking an end to police brutality and bad governance.

They brave the odds, putting their lives on the line to fight for a better Nigeria. The initial protest which was infiltrated by security forces who supplied thugs to attack the peaceful protest was eventually hijacked by thugs and  later shooting by the Nigeria Army, which led to loss of lives and wanton destruction of properties in Lagos and some other cities.

In their reaction to the protest, the Northern Governor described the protest against police brutality and bad governance as nothing but regime change. The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN went a step further to freeze accounts of some they felt showed open support for the protest.

Ironically, just one month after, the reality of bad governance dawned on Nigerians, especially those living in the North when they woke up to the news that over 43 rice farmers have been beheaded in their farms. Till date, no security chief has been fired and none even offered to resign.

But determined to correct this anomaly, again the youths hit the street today in peaceful protest calling on government to meet up with their demands. Their demands include “Buhari, Buratai, Sanwo-Olu must resign and face ICC for killing innocent Nigerians at Lekki toll; free all #EndSARS protesters; unfreeze all bank accounts of #EndSARS protesters and referendum. Watch video of the protest here and here.

Experts in politics have called severally called for restructuring of Nigeria, rotation of presidency among the 6 geo political zones, amendment of the 1999 constitution, pruning down of lawmakers salaries and emoluments the highest all over the world, cutting down on salaries of political appointees, stoppage of life time pension for former presidents, Vice Presidents,  governors and their deputies and reform of the electoral acts. These, experts believe are at the bane of bad governance in Nigeria.
