LAGOS, Nigeria – Attacks on Journalists, refusal of officials deployed by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC to upload results from the polling units were some of the issues that characterized the governorship and state houses of assembly election held today March 18, 2023.

At the polling unit at Elegushi Palace, supporters allegedly loyal to Oba Saheed Elegushi were unleashed on Arise TV correspondents, Adeoye and Opeyemi.

We gathered that the Oba allegedly ordered detention of the correspondents, who were beaten before they were rescued by the Commissioner of Police, following pressure from Arise TV. Their equipment were also seized.

We also gathered that television reporter with Channels TV was also attacked at Oshodi. At Shomolu and Folagoro, we heard that thugs were in the street shooting and intimidating electorates in the area.

 At Victor Olaiya/Idahosa Aguda Polling unit, PU 059, INEC officials refused to upload results at the conclusion of the election. One of the INEC officials who spoke on a viral video said there will only be network at the collation centre in Surulere.

It was not clear if she finally uploaded results from the unit as required by INEC rules and the Electoral Act.
