LAGOS, Nigeria –  The National Union of Electricity Employees  has started mobilization ahead of the Nigerian Labour Congress strike  slated for Tuesday 26th and Wednesday, 27th of July 2022.

A statement signed by General Secretary of the union, Mr. Joe Ajaero urged members of the union to massively mobilise and actively pariticipate in the NLC/ASUU solidarity protest against  the continued closure of the nation’s tertiary institutions scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday this week.

You are encouraged to work with the leadership of the State Executive  Councils of the  congress in your various states with a view to having a successful outing, the NUEE said in the letter.

ASUU has been on strike to press home the demand for proper funding  and revitalisation of public universities, Earned Academic Allowances, University Transparency Accountability Solution (UTAS) and promotion arrears.

Others are the renegotiation of 2009 ASUU-FG Agreement and the inconsistency in Integrated Personnel Payroll Information System.

“There is also the issue of our mode of payments in the universities. There is no university in the world where lecturers are paid salaries from the Accountant General’s Office. We have challenged them to provide one, if universities are a universal body, why are they doing things differently.

“We talk of negotiation of the agreement, the proliferation of universities, among others, so there are lots of issues that they have not resolved,” ASUU President, Prof. Emmanuel Osedeke has said.

The ASUU president also said that the government had also refused to accept UTAS that he said had been tested and passed with a scored 99.3 per cent.
