LAGOS, Nigeria – The Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai today slammed the Presidency, saying there are people within working against candidate of the All Progressive Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

El-Rufai spoke on Channels TV less than 24 hours after candidate of the party, accused Presidency of not doing enough to tackle the downward slide of the Naira from N200 in 2011, when it came to power  until it went to as high as N800 to the US Dollar.

“They moved the exchange rate from N200 to N800. If they had repaired it, we won’t be where we are today.  They don’t know the way, they don’t know how to think”. This is not the first time Tinubu is attacking the Presidency in his campaign.

Although, President Muhammadu Buhari had attended campaign of the APC on more than one occasion, the Kaduna State Governor said those involved in his allegations are those who had candidates that lost during the APC primaries, adding that they are now working to ensure that the APC loses.

“I believe that there are elements in the Villa that want us to lose the election because they did not get their way. They had their candidates but their candidates didn’t win the primaries and I think they are still working to get us to lose the election and I believe they are hiding behind the President’s desire to do what is right”, he said.

El-Rufai also said that what President Muhammadu Buhari is executing are not part of the APC manifesto.

He said the APC did not promise Naira redesign and that people should look at what the President did in 1984 when he was Head of State, adding that Buhari believes that the policy will help him to catch politicians who have starched away cash in various places, which he said is not wrong but wondered why the President is doing it now.

He said also spoke about the fuel scarcity, adding that he met with President Muhammadu Buhari and told  him why the nation will allocate N200 billion on roads and spend trillions on fuel subsidy. He said the president agreed with him but that the president reneged immediately he left.

Reacting to El-Rufai’s outburst, Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Lai Muhammed said the Presidency is not aware of anybody working against the APC  in the presidency but that the President is determined to bequeath a free, fair and credible elections to Nigeria irrespective of party affiliations.
