Ebola: China Delivers $5 Million Humanitarian Aid to West Africa

August 10, 2014 – The Chinese Government has pledged that it will deliver humanitarian aid worth $5 million to West African countries afflicted with Ebola Virus Disease (EVD).

The disease has killed about 932 people in the sub-region since February, 2010 when the face case was recorded in the region.

Head Ministry of Commerce, Department of Foreign Assistance, Mr. Wang Shengwen made the revelation on Sunday.

“The emergency aid mainly includes personal protective equipment, patient monitors, sprays, and medicines. The Ministry of Commerce will work closely with all related bureaus to see to the safe delivery of the aid materials. The materials will be flown to the affected countries on Sunday afternoon.”

He said the delivery is the second batch of humanitarian aid from China to West Africa since the Ebola outbreak began in the region.

“The first batch was in April – one month into the current outbreak. The World Health Organization has declared an “international health emergency,” and called for a coordinated international response to contain the spread.
