Earthquakes kill at least 1900 people in Turkey and Syria

INSTANBUL – At least 1, 900 civilians have been killed when a major earthquakes measuring about 708 magnitude on the Richter scale  hit  Kahramanmaraş and eight other  neighboring provinces  in Turkey and Syria in the early afternoon.

According to the National Earthquake Centre, the earthquake occurred at a latitude of 38009 and a longitude of 37020, at a depth of 10 kilometers.

At least 912 deaths have been killed, with over 1000 others missing in Turkey.  At total of 5, 385 people have been injured, while over 800 people have been killed in Syria

Speaking on the disaster, President Tayyip Erdogan said 912 citizens had thus far lost their lives and 5,385 citizens had been injured, President Erdoğan stated that the number of the people saved from the wreckage had reached 1,470.

“Our state has taken action with all its institutions starting from the moment of the earthquake, and the governorates have immediately mobilized all their means in their own provinces, President Erdoğan said adding that 10 more governors had been assigned to work with the governors in the 10 provinces hit by the earthquake, and that such institutions as AFAD, Turkish Red Crescent (Kızılay) and the Turkish Armed Forces had been stationed in the area.

He said talks for international aids have started as well.” In addition to NATO and the European Union, 45 more countries’ offer for help have been received. I wish Allah’s mercy upon our citizens who lost their lives in this big disaster, and a speedy recovery to the injured.”

Meanwhile, residents of the occupied Syrian Golan have expressed their sympathy to the people of their homeland, Syria for their painful affliction following the earthquake that claimed the lives of hundreds victims.

“Our people are along the squares of the homeland with hearts that believe in God’s will and destiny. We share the painful affliction of our dear homeland, Syria, following the earthquake that hit the country’s provinces, and its results were catastrophic on the humanitarian and economic levels, asking God to rest the victims in peace and to heal the injured “citizens of the Golan said in a statement SANA.

They affirmed their confidence that dear Syria will return better than it was before with the determination of Mr. President Bashar al-Assad and the loyal sons of Syria to its precious land.
