KABUL, Afghanistan – An earthquake measuring 5.9 magnitude on the Richter scale has claimed   not less than 920 lives in Kayan district, Paktika Province, Interior Minister , Ali Ahmad Jalali has said

According to reports, hundreds of buildings were destroyed when the quake hit  the Kayan district, located in the South Eastern town of Paktika Province .

We gathered that tremors from the earthquake could be heard as far as Kabul, capital of Afghanistan, and Islamabad.

So far, authorities  say medics have been sent to the Kayan district while rescue operation is still ongoing. Many people are feared trapped beneath the rubble, while bad weather is hampering rescue operation even as the Taliban has called for help from the international community.
