AWKA, Anambra, Nigeria – The embattled Sunday Moghalu standing trial for allegedly impregnating a 13 year old minor has implored the senior Magistrate court in Awka Anambra state, presided over by   Jenevive Osakwe’s to order DNA test on the controversial pregnancy.​

The suspect, a 75 year old man who told the court that he is not responsible for the pregnancy, claimed that the girl was impregnated after visiting her home town for a cultural festival in Akwa Ibom State .

The suspect who spoke through his counsel Barr Okwuawka, claimed he has never been mad or had​ any form of brain complications to fall into such temptations even when his wife is alive.

According to the counsel the girl was sent back to Akwa Ibom when they noticed she was pregnant, but she was brought back by her parents and in a bid to assist her in  this embarrassing situation.

He regretted that the mistake he made was that he didn’t report the matter to the police claiming that the girl​ has also made some confessional statement that would be made public as the matter progresses

It would be recalled that​ Moughalu was arraigned on a 3 count charge before an Amawbia magistrate court presided over by Senior magistrate Jenevive Osakwe on a three count charge bothering on rape, unlawful intercourse and abuse of fundamental rights among others.​

The prosecuting officer Inspector Ayogu Onyema had told the court that the defendant was arrested on Sunday night at his Agu Oye Umudioka home, following a tip off.

​ He said the committed offense​ is punishable by section 34 law of Anambra State 2004.​ Moghalu pleaded not guilty claiming that he was not responsible for the​ Pregnancy.

​ Senior magistrate Osakwe​ in her ruling for bail said  she has no jurisdiction to admit the suspect to bail  and that the bail application should be tabled at the High Court and adjourned the case to Feb,1 for transfer.

​ Muoghalu who resides at Agu oye Umudioka Awka was arrested​ Sunday night on the orders of the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon Ify Obinabo.

He was arrested when the video of the girl and her new baby went viral​ on social media after she was discovered by a good Samaritan who stumbled on her where she was abandoned in a private hospital at Adazi in Aniocha LGA.
