Malaysia, Oct 6, 2016 – A Malaysian court has freed nine Australians who were arrested for stripping and constituting public nuisance after Sunday Formula One Grand Prix.
However, One of the men, Thomas Whitworth, fainted during the proceedings and had to be given water.
The nine were reported to have posed in swimwear decorated with the Malaysian flag to celebrate Australian Daniel Ricciardo’s win in Sunday’s race.
The strippers, branded the “Budgie Nine”, were charged with public nuisance, which carries a fine of about RM400 (£76; $96). Among the nine was Jack Walker, an aide to Australian Defence Industry Minister Christopher Pyne. His father John Walker however told reporters outside the court that his son and eight others were good boys.
They were however set free by the judge when the tendered a written apology, wherein they expressed their deepest regrets and that the incident was nothing but an error of judgment.
Last year four foreign tourists were jailed for taking naked photographs at the peak of Mount Kinabalu in Malaysia.
