LAGOS, Nigeria – President Muhammadu Buhari has received news of the death of former Vice President, Dr. Alex Ekwueme in a London hospital, describing him as a professional who served Nigeria and humanity.
Dr. Alex Ekwueme died at 85.
In a statement, Buhari said Ekwueme lived a worthy life, excelled in professional practice, in business, in politics and in philanthropy and that Nigeria will miss his wise counsel and wisdom on national issues.
“Dr. Ekwueme lived a worthy life, excelled in professional practice, in business, in politics, in philanthropy. He served Nigeria and humanity. We will miss his counsel and wisdom on national issues. May his soul rest in peace”, he said.
Reacring to his demise, a former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar said he is saddened by the passing of Dr Alex Ekweme, our former Vice President, adding that he was a man of character and never faltered in his belief in Nigeria.
” Dr Alex and I were part of the 1995 Constitutional Conference, which recommended that Nigeria be restructured along six geo-political zones. We will miss his focused guidance”, he said.
