IKEJA, Lagos – The Divisional Police Officer(DPO) of the Gowon Estate Police Division, in Lagos has been removed from office for detaining lawyer who was seeking the bail of his client.
Commissioner of Police Lagos State, CP Adegoke Fayoade ordered his immediate removal pending review of his case by supersory authority.
The CP who had earlier ordered investigation into the circumstance surrounding detaining the lawyer, leading to his eventual hospitalisation, has in addition directed the OC Legal of the division to initiate steps to meet with the Lagos State Bar Association for dialogue to avoid recurrence of the incident and to enhance better police-lawyer relationship.
The CP reaffirmed his commitment to the rule of law and to discipline any officer found to be breaching rules of engagement.
