US, July 18, 2016 – Presidential candidate of the Republican Party, Donald Trump has picked Indiana Governor, Mike Pence as his Vice President ahead of the general election scheduled for November later this year.
His decision to pick Pence is seen as a calculated attempt to bring the party closer as the Republican National Convention, where he will be officially be presented at the GOP candidate draws near.
Pence is an evangelical Christian with support from both traditional fiscal and social conservatives who have been wary of Trump.
“Mike Pence is a man of honor, character and honesty,” Trump said.
Born June 7, 1959, Pence is an attorney and the 50th Governor of Indiana since January 14, 2013. A member of the Republican Party, he previously represented Indiana’s 2nd congressional district and Indiana’s 6th congressional district in the United States House of Representatives from 2001 to 2013 and served as Chairman of the House Republican Conference from 2009 to 2011.
Pence is a conservative and a supporter of the Tea Party movement. He is an alma mater of Hanover College and University of Indiana, Indianapolis.
