IKOYI, Lagos – A Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos, has ordered temporary forfeiture of N29 million, found in the account of a Director of Account, Public Works Corporation, Lagos State, Mr. Anifowoshe Jamiu-Alade.
The court gave the order for being proceeds of unlawful activities. Public Works Corporation is responsible for mending and construction of local roads in Lagos State.
Justice Mohammed Idris made the order while grant ing an Ex-parte application filed before the court by Mr. Rotimi Oyedepo, and argued by Mr. Muhammad Idris, lawyers to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, against the Director.
Apart from the said sum Justice Idris, also ordered interim forfeiture of his building’s located at Igbogbo-Ikorodu, Dopemu area of the state, Citiview Estate, Arepo in Ogun State, and a plot of land situated at Queen’s Garden Estate along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, to the Federal Government of Nigeria, for also being proceeds of unlawful activities.
The EFCC in an affidavit deposed to by one of its investigators, Zayyanu Halliru, stated that the Director used his office and position to enrich himself with the funds from Public works Corporation to acquire landed properties within Lagos and Ogun State which the EFCC has recovered.
After listening to the submission of the EFCC lawyer, Justice Idris ordered EFCC to publish the ruling to enable any interested parties to come and show why the properties should not be permanently forfeited to federal government within fourteen days. The matter has been adjourned till January 16, 2018 for hearing.
