Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan has assured residents of Delta State and indigene of Oleh in particular that the State Government has no plan to relocate Faculty of Engineering Delta State University from Oleh.

Uduaghan gave the assurance while speaking at the dedication of St. Philips Anglican Church; Emmanuel Anglican Church and Vicarage in Owhelogbo, Isoko North local government area of Delta State.

The building of the Emmanuel Anglican Church was completed by the Secretary to the Delta State Government, Comrade Ovuozourie Macaulay who had during his 50th birthday thanksgiving service in 2010, pledged to complete the project.

According to the Governor, while some rumour can cause a lot of crisis, it can also damage the reputation individuals have built over the years as well as breed animosity, anger and anarchy in the society.

“Let me appeal that we should stop rumour mongering, some of the rumours we carry can cause a lot of crises. Each time we are manufacturing lies, we are destroying somebody’s reputation,” the Governor stated.

In particular, he used the opportunity to rebuff rumours making the rounds in an online portals that the Faculty of Engineering was being relocated from the Oleh Campus of Delta State University, saying: “I want to assure Isoko people that nobody has contemplated moving any Faculty of the Delta State University (DELSU) to any place.”

Rather, he disclosed that the government has just approved that an agency of the government should now oversee construction works at the campus to ensure speedy completion of the projects involved.

Uduaghan who commended Comrade Macaulay for redeeming his pledge to complete the building of the church, urged Christians to always pray for those who make pledges because so many factors could make them not to redeem such pledges.

“It is by the grace of God that this edifice is being dedicated today, one of the most difficult things to achieve in life is redeeming of pledges. So, when people make pledge, pray for them because a lot of factors can make them not to redeem the pledge,” the Governor said.

In his remarks, Comrade Macaulay thanked God for making it possible for him to redeem the pledge, hinting that friends and relations, including church members assisted him to complete the church project.

In a sermon, the Primate of the Anglican Communion (Church of Nigeria) the Most Revd. Nicholas Okoh admonished Christians to be courageous to say no to evil saying: “We must show by practice that the church is light.”

“The Christian is a holy man because he is called out of darkness to God’s marvelous light, he is called from anything that is ungodly to serve God,” the Primate said.

He also urged Christians to be active in working for God, noting that donating to God’s work is the most abiding project one can do in a lifetime. “As we build beautiful structures to worship God, all hands must be on deck to build the people to be acceptable to God”, he added.

Prayers were offered for President Goodluck Jonathan, Dr Uduaghan, traditional rulers, Nigeria, and Delta State.
