August 20, 2014 – Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan has described the death of his Special Adviser on Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Mr. Sunny Ofili as a personal loss too painful to bear.
Uduaghan Wednesday, accompanied by his deputy, Prof. Amos Utuama (SAN), and members of the State Executive Council, including political aides, paid a condolence visit on the family of the late Ofili in Asaba.
The late SA died in an auto accident that also, claimed the life of the traditional ruler of Issele-Uku, HRH Obi Henry Ezeagwuna.
According to Dr Uduaghan, the deceased was “a young man, very active and dedicated to his duties with a passion. Sunny’s death is a personal loss to me.”
While condoling the late Ofili’s family on the loss, the Governor said, “I know it is very painful to the family. For us in government, it is also very painful. It is very difficult to express one’s feelings because for his death is a great loss to the state.”
He promised that the state government would meet up the responsibility of giving the late colleague a befitting burial.
Responding on behalf of the family, Mr. Patrick Isichei thanked Governor Uduaghan for the show of love and concern for the Ofili’s family and for associating with them in their period of grief.
While assuring the governor that the family would collaborate with the state government for the burial of their brother and son, Mr. Ischei disclosed that a committee has been set up for the burial by the family and that August 28 and 29, 2014 have been tentatively fixed for the burial ceremony.
The Deputy Governor, Prof. Utuama later led a prayer session for the family, Delta State government and the people of the state.
Meanwhile, Nigerians of all walks of life have continued to sign the condolence register opened in honour of the late, Sunny Ofili.
Peter Mobuogwu wrote: “May the good Lord give you a place of rest and peace in his kingdom. Rest in peace gentleman,” while the Commissioner for Special Duties in the state, Mr Ifeanyi Osuoza wrote: “Tears are not enough to express our pains, but, God knows best. My dear brother and partner, rest in His bosom.”
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Health Matters, Dr Rukevwe Ugwumba simply wrote: “No words!!!” while the Commissioner for Commerce in the state, Mr. Kingsley Emu wrote: “Sad to say goodbye my friend. It is well.”
