LAGOS, Nigeria – The death of a medical practitioner, Dr. Chinelo Nwabundo aboard a  Kaduna bound train on the Abuja-Kaduna railways has sparked an outrage on the Twitter, following the way some youthful Nigerians responded when Chinelo, called for help after being shot by terrorists that stormed the train between Katari and Rijana and detonated explosives which ripped apart the locomotive.

Many were injured while scores were abducted. Chinelo was among the over 970 passengers that boarded the train from Abuja to Kaduna.  The medical doctor who was working for St. Gerald’s Hospital, Kaduna had resigned to enable her pursue a satisfying medical career abroad but she was met with death  in Nigeria before she could make the trip.

“Chinelo, just like many passengers aboard the train had alerted Nigerians that she was aboard the train and had been shot by the terrorists, and requested Nigerians to pray for her.

But what she got after her brave tweets, was the usual political comments and ridicule by political jobbers.

Posh-Mama, one of those who received the tweet laughed it all, when she replied her tweet: “your shot isn’t serious, otherwise,  you’ll be asking us to call the army, not pray for you”. Ogbeni Dipo, popularized attempt by Posh-mama to ridicule a dying Nigerian, who was urgently in need of help by re-tweeting the vile message directed at the dying medical doctor.

Abolore Ponmo@ysone2 did the abominable when he asked the dying doctor: Are You dead now?”, after Chinelo twitted, I’am in the train. I have been shot please pray for me”.

This development sparked outrage, forcing many to call out names of political parties.

“It’s the same people who defend this administration that came out to mock a fellow Nigerian who was shot on the train; people who have no conscience, no empathy. Dr Chinelo is dead now, are you happy? Are your paymasters pleased with you? Vile, depraved beings! Scum of the earth”, Dr. Chinonso Egemba said.

“Look at this man’s tweet on Chinelo’s last post. This is the type of people Nigerian APC government is creating, heartless set of people”, Ada Idemili said of  Abolore, raining curses on him and his family.

The outrage is terrible with many of them simply unprintable. However, the originators of the offensive tweets have deleted them following public outburst but copies continue to circulate online.

However, the Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El-Rufai has has visited  the 44 Military Hospital and St. Gerald Hospital to see some of the citizens that were injured  in the attack on the Kaduna-Abuja train.

Speaking on the incident, Mr. Peter Obi described  the terror attacks on the Abuja-Kaduna bound train, with several persons reportedly abducted as depressing and disheartening, adding that it underscores the worsening level of insecurity across the country.

President of the Senate, Mr. Ahmad Lawan commiserated with the families affected.

“My heartfelt sympathy to the families of all those that lost their lives and to those that sustained various degrees of injuries in the dastardly terrorist attack on a Kaduna bound train yesterday”, he said. So far no statement from the Presidency except the Vice President who is also in Kaduna to commiserate with the victims.
