KENYA – Former President of Kenya, Daniel Arap Moi is dead. He was 95. Daniel Arap Moi ruled Kenya from 1978 to 2002 and he was Kenya’s second president, taking over from Jomo Kenyatta.
Born September 2, 1924, Arap Moi was a close ally of Jomo Kenyatt, whom he served as Vice President in 1967. Prior to that he served as Home Affairs Minister also under Jomo Kenyatta.

Daniel Arap Moi who held on to power for 24 years stepped down in 2002 based on Kenya’s constitution which barred from further contesting as President.
While in office, he introduced the politics of divide and rule and was accused of human rights abuses. Daniel Arap Moi also introduced multi-party politics in 1991, but subsequent elections were marred by rigging.
Meanwhile as Kenyan’s mourned his departure, tributes have continued to pour in across Africa.
