A MURDER investigation has been launched in East London after a 70-year-old woman was found dead inside a suburban home, sparking shockwaves through a quiet neighbourhood.

A 75-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the grim discovery in Dagenham over the weekend.
Emergency services rushed to a residential property on Boulton Road on Sunday, 14 June, following frantic concerns raised for the welfare of a female resident.

Paramedics from the London Ambulance Service (LAS) were the first to arrive at the scene, where they discovered the elderly woman inside the property.

Despite the best efforts of medical personnel, the 70-year-old victim was sadly declared dead at the scene.

Metropolitan Police officers quickly flooded the street, cordoning off the area as a crime scene. A 75-year-old man was arrested at the address on suspicion of murder.

Scotland Yard confirmed that the suspect was subsequently taken to a local hospital, where he currently remains under police guard.

The nature of his medical condition has not yet been disclosed, and police have not released the identities of either the victim or the suspect while formal identification processes take place.

Forensic teams in white suits were spotted entering the property on Monday as investigators began the painstaking process of combing the house for evidence. Neighbors woke up to the sight of blue police tape cutting off access to parts of the normally peaceful road.

The close-knit Dagenham community has been left reeling by the tragic news. Detectives have moved quickly to reassure anxious locals, setting up an increased police presence in the area to answer questions and offer support.

Detective Inspector Mark Walker, who is leading the fast-moving homicide investigation, offered his condolences to those affected while urging calm in the neighborhood.

”We know how concerning this news will be for the local community, and our officers will remain in the area today to provide reassurance,” DI Walker said.

”Our thoughts remain with the loved ones of the woman who died. Detectives continue to work to establish exactly what has taken place, but at this time believe this was an isolated incident.”

The police statement indicating that the tragedy is believed to be an “isolated incident” suggests officers are not currently looking for anyone else in connection with the death. However, a major probe is now underway to piece together the final moments of the victim’s life.

As the investigation enters its second day, police are appealing heavily to the public for any information that could help shed light on the tragedy.

Detectives are keen to speak with anyone living on Boulton Road or the surrounding streets who may have seen or heard anything unusual on Saturday night or Sunday morning. Residents with Ring doorbells, private CCTV systems, or dashcam footage from the area are being urged to check their recordings.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police urged anyone with information to come forward immediately to assist the homicide squad.

Anyone with information that could help police should call 101 quoting reference CAD 5415/14June. Alternatively, information can be provided 100% anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
