ONITSHA, Nigeria – A non-governmental organisation, United Traders Association (UTA) South East Geo political zone said it has empowered 250 widows and less privileged women since the inception of COVID-19 pandemic in the area.
The NGO is incorporated to cater for the welfare of women in the markets across the country.
According to the President and Founder of the organization, Mrs Nkiru Duru who spoke to our reporter shortly after meeting with their spiritual director Rev . Father Emmanuel Obimma (Ebube muonso),the spiritual Director of Holy Ghost Adoration Ministry Ukeh, Anambra state, said the NGO has given palliative to 250 widows and less privileged women since the outbreak of the pandemic.
She said some of beneficiaries include, widows, co-ordinators , woman leaders of various markets and some selected less privileged members.
“We have so far empowered over 250 members including widows since the lockdown and we have also connected some market women in the south East geopolitical zone. By next month we shall be reaching out to destitute homes at least one per each market in the south East” she said
According to Duru, the aims and objectives of the association was to enhance the welfare of members and ensure the relevance of market women in the society thereby reducing stress in their business life through social activities.
Speaking to the women, the spiritual Director of Holy Ghost Adoration Ministry Ukeh, Rev . Father Emmanuel Obimma (Ebube muonso) challenged the association as an umbrella body of market women to use the organization to harvest souls for God. Father Obimma urged the women to emulate Christ by living in unity and tolerance as well as being steadfast in their prayer life.
According to him” Prayer is the key to success, Jesus started with prayer and ended with prayer, emulate the life of Jesus Christ that is the life of prayer. Also Unity and peace are very important, where ever there is peace, the glory of God abounds. As your spiritual Director, I am charging you to embrace love, anything built on love must surely last.”
