IKEJA, Lagos – Justice Josephine Oyefeso of a Lagos State High Court, sitting in Ikeja today ordered an armed robber, Mutiu Oyedeji to be hanged to death for stealing at gun point.
The judge found the convict guilty of a two-count charge filed by the State Department of Public Prosecution, which borders on attempted robbery and conspiracy.
Mutiu Oyedeji was arraigned on February 17, 2016 before the court and he pleaded not guilty to the two count charge. According to the prosecutor, Mrs. Shitta Bey, the convict and two others, at large on September 2015, robbed one Ikenna Egocima at Ejigbo area at a gun point.
In his allocotus, defense counsel, Mr. Nkenna Okolie said although the prosecutor has been able to prove the case beyond reasonable doubt but would still asked court to temper justice with mercy.
Justice Oyefeso said mercy is beyond the court power as the Administrative of Criminal Justice Act has provided punishment for armed robbery.
