ABUJA, Nigeria- The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja has made a significant decision, affirming Usuf Umar Datti as the true representative of the people in Kura/Madobi/Garun Malam Federal Constituency in Kano State.
In this ruling, Yusuf Umar Datti from the NNPP has been reinstated as the duly elected representative, and Rep. Iliyasu Musa Kwankwaso of the APC has been removed from office.
The Court’s decision comes after NNPP’s Yusuf Umar Datti appealed the election results, challenging their validity.
Hon. Justice Tunde Oyebamiji Awotoye, who led the three-judge panel, delivered the verdict. He criticized the Tribunal’s ruling, pointing out that it was incorrect to consider the date of the Appellant’s resignation as the date of his party’s primary election.
Furthermore, he noted that Section 77 of the Electoral Act had been applied erroneously. As a result of these findings, the Court has reinstated Yusuf Umar Datti as the legitimate Representative for the constituency.
