Collapsed Synagogue Church: Death Toll Hits 115, Says South African Minister

September 22, 2014 – Death toll at the collapsed building at Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN) has been put at 115. A South African Minister, Mr. Jeff Radebe made the remarks at a South African Air Force base in North Johannesburg while receiving 25 citizens who were injured in the collapsed building.

The 25 were flown to SA aboard a C-130 military aircraft for treatment.
Radebe said 84 South Africans died in the tragedy.

“We understand from our assessment team that the total number of people who have perished is now 115, but they are not all South Africans. South Africans are about 84 that have died” Jeff Radebe told reporters.
He added that that 26 injured South Africans who were meant to make the trip decided to stay back at the Synagogue church.

He noted that a 19-member medical team including specialist doctors, nurses and medical military paramedics took care of the injured aboard the military aircraft. Among those on board were two toddlers whose parents died in the tragedy.

However, Public Relations Officer, Nigerian Emergency Management Agency, Mr. Ibrahim Farinloye put the total death toll at 86 last week when NEMA completed rescue operation in Lagos.
