March 26, 2015 – Less than 48 hours to the general election, a group of children today embarked on peace walk in Lagos demanding peace as the nation prepares to hold elections on Saturday.

The children numbering over 100 embarked on the walk from the Lagos State Governors office to Lagos Television (LTV8) chanting in demand for peace in the fort- coming elections so as not to mortgage their future.

Speaking on behalf of the group, Dr. Kolawole Oyeyemi  said the children  embarked on the march to beg political gladiators not to mortgage their future. He explained that throughout 2014, the group embarked on various fora to advocate for peace before, during and after the election. He said the group has worked with the Nigerian Union of Journalist (NUJ), Lagos State on peace media parley and  peace walk on International Day for Peace and others.

He said the group has also embarked on peace building to encourage voters, those seeking political office and the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) to encourage peace so as not to infringe on the right of children.

Also speaking, a member of the group, Miss. Rashidat Ishola said the message is simple, “Please do not mortgage our future”, adding that the politicians are using thugs to perpetrate violence. She called on government to take the thugs off the street by giving them vocational training.

Another youth, Master Avelet Oyebade made the same plea, adding that every child has right to dignity and parental care and that politicians must not mortgage their future with violence.
