UTAH, U.S – Twenty-two year old Tyler Robinson alleged to be the killer of Charlie Kirk has been arrested.
He was arrested more than 48 hours after the shooting incident at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah.
The United States Secret Service announced that Tyler Robinson is in custody and urged the public to continue sharing any information, photos or videos in connection with the killing.
According to FBI, following the shooting, the individual jumps from a rooftop and runs away from the location. Trace evidence collected from the rooftop includes shoe impressions, a forearm imprint, and a palm print. The shooter’s weapon and ammunition were recovered from a wooded area near the university.
How he was arrested
Tyler Robinson was taken into custody after his father, Matt Robinson, who had seen images released by authorities, confronted him. Tyler Robinson reportedly confessed to the shooting but initially threatened to die by suicide rather than surrender.
His father and a minister, who is also a US marshals service fugitive task force officer, convinced him to meet with them, and he was subsequently taken into custody by the FBI.
He is charged with aggravated murder, felony discharge of a firearm, and obstruction of justice. Authorities say he had become “more political” and hostile toward conservative figures.
He was a student at Utah State University for one semester in 2021. His parents’ social media accounts depict a “close-knit household” with Robinson and his two younger brothers.
