Charlie Hebdo: Four Killed as French Special Forces End Two Separate Siege

January 9, 2015 – Two brothers(Said and Cherif Kouachi) suspected to have attacked French satirical newspaper, Charlie Hebdo weekly where this evening killed when French special forces stormed a small town of Dammartinen-Goele, where they were surrounded.

Several shots were fired with grenades as smokes appeared from the area where the two brothers were held up near the airport.

Charlie Hebdo had a history of satirical write ups and cartoons attacking Islam as well as other religions and political leaders.

Twelve people were killed on Wednesday when the two brothers stormed the weekly newspapers. A witness said one of the gunmen was heard to shout: “We have killed Charlie Hebdo! We have avenged the Prophet!”, in Wednesday attack.

A police source was quoted as saying that at least four people and the hostage taker, Ahmed Coulabaley had been killed in a separate siege at a kosher supermarket in eastern Paris.

Earlier the Kouachi brother had told authorities that they preferred to die as Martyrs and that they belong to al-Qaeda.

Security sources said the French-born brothers are of Algerian origin had been under surveillance and had been placed on European and U.S. “no-fly” lists.
