An illegal film exhibitor operating in Mabushi Market, Abuja has been arrested in a combined raid by officials of the National Film and Video Censors Board and the Nigeria Police.
Acting Head, Corporate Affairs, Mr. Ceazar Kagho noted that the board carried out the raids after weeks of surveillance by the board.
Electronic gadgets used by the operator for exhibiting the films, three TV sets and a DVD/VCD player were seized. Numerous pornographic and uncensored movies worth of about N6m (six million naira) were also sequestered in the ever busy Wuse Market, Abuja.
Director General of the Board, Ms. Patricia Bala, observed that the enabling law authorizes the board to clear the streets of unwholesome movies.
“So, we are just carrying out our mandate”
Similarly, the Ag. Director of Operations, Mr. Cornel Agim, said that the success of the operation was based on the intelligence gathering by the monitoring team of the Board in conjunction with the police.
