LAGOS, Nigeria – The 2022 annual general meeting of Saint Louis Owo Old Girls Association ( SLOOGA ) marked the end of Mrs Oyeyemi Jimi – Salami’s tenure. Recalling, her 5 years reign as founding member and President, Salami says, it has been an interesting journey.
A period of gathering old students across the globe. She refered to that period as a colossal breakthrough for the association.
Speaking further she said “We were given the mandate to run affairs of the association for a second term on the 25th of January 2020, this came after we have spent a term of 2 years as elected officers and whatsapp group admin respectively”.
Narrating the brief history of the Association, Salami says, the association started in 1988 when Mrs F Anjorin was then the principal. She hosted some of the old students and encouraged them to form an association. Mrs. Margaret Omolara Adare nee Ayeni of 1969 set was elected as the National President.
There was a disconnect after the celebrations of the school’s silver jubilee and members participation became irregular, followed by inactivity for years. However the preparation for the golden jubilee of the school in 2012 signalled another hope. Mrs B A Anya made efforts to revive the association, by contacting some old students. This time around, the association came back to life. Mrs Adare was requested to continue with the leadership. Other officers were elected with Mrs Adora Alabi being the Secretary.
Bi-monthly meetings were held regularly in Owo, Ondo State, under the leadership of Mrs Aduke Aruwajoye. Most of the efforts of the association is geared towards making the school, Saint Louis Grammar School Owo, one of the best and outstanding from all ramifications.
The association also want to set standards amongst alumni of secondary schools in Nigeria, for uplifting the lives of young women who will stand very tall, in whatever works of life they find themselves in future, both as mothers and nation builders. These are some of the key positions being occupied by her members today. As the the saying goes, tomorrow generations must be greater than those of today and that’s the path and footprint the association is towing.
The association has so far contributed immensely to the upliftment of the school since her existence. The school is a single sex school of very young girls, some of Nigeria’s finest both in brain and beauty.
The association which started in 1988 has state chapters in every state in Nigeria, Africa, United State of America, Europe, United Kingdom and Asia.
