THE DEATH toll from a series of devastating joint US and Israeli airstrikes across Iran has climbed to a staggering 800, and 787 injured according to the latest local reports
Images emerging from the region paint a harrowing picture of the fallout, with local news agency Farsna releasing footage of a mass funeral prayer in the city of Minab.
In a scene that has sparked international outcry, hundreds gathered to mourn a group of schoolchildren killed when the strikes reportedly hit a civilian area.
The footage shows rows of small wooden caskets draped in traditional cloths, as grieving families and locals knelt in prayer.
The Minab strike has become a flashpoint for anger, with Iranian officials accusing the coalition of “indiscriminate slaughter.”
The joint operation, which began earlier this week, was described by Washington and Tel Aviv as a “precision campaign” aimed at neutralizing Tehran’s strategic military assets.
However, the rapidly rising body count suggests a scale of conflict not seen in decades.
Rescue teams are still working through the rubble in several major cities, and there are fears the death toll could rise further as more bodies are recovered from collapsed infrastructure.
While the Pentagon has maintained that all targets were “strictly military,” the images of the Minab schoolchildren have put immense pressure on Western leaders. Protests have already been reported in several world capitals, with calls for an immediate ceasefire to prevent a total regional meltdown
These strikes follow months of simmering tensions and a series of “red line” provocations, including alleged drone strikes on Western interests and advanced developments in Iran’s nuclear program.
This marks a significant shift in strategy, with the US and Israel moving from “shadow warfare” (cyberattacks and covert ops) to an overt, large-scale joint kinetic military operation.
Experts warn that the high civilian death toll may force Iran’s regional proxies—such as Hezbollah in Lebanon and the Houthis in Yemen—to launch retaliatory strikes, potentially dragging the entire Middle East into a multi-front war.
With nearly 800 dead in a matter of days, humanitarian organizations are warning of a medical collapse in the targeted areas, as hospitals struggle to cope with thousands of casualties.
