MUNICH – Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich have been ordered to pay around €200,000 ($216,560) to customs for years of unpaid social benefits.
The main customs office in Munich has issued a “confiscation order in the amount of around €200,000” against Bayern, a spokesman said on Thursday.
In addition, the evaded social security contributions and surcharges on overdue payment in the amount of around €45,500 will be demanded, the customs authorities stated in their statement.
Bayern are alleged to have employed workers at their youth academy on a short-term basis, paying €450 per month between November 2016 and November 2021.
However, the employees worked considerably more hours than agreed, while the club didn’t pay the minimum wage, according to the customs authorities. As a result, social security regulations were disregarded.
Bayern said on Thursday that the club had already taken structural precautions at the youth academy in autumn 2020 to avoid undercutting the minimum wage in the future.
Since July 2021, there have no longer been any short-term employees at the youth academy.
“It was never Bayern Munich’s intention to withhold justified wages from their employees,” the club said.
