BREMEN – Werder Bremen managing director Frank Baumann said they are doing everything possible to convince top striker Niclas Füllkrug to stay at the club, but stressed “we have financial limits.”

Werder Bremen managing director Frank Baumann said they are doing everything possible to convince top striker Niclas Füllkrug to stay at the club, but stressed “we have financial limits.”

“It’s important to pay players based on performance. Niclas has contributed a lot to our success in the past two years,” he told the media on Saturday.

Baumann reminded, however, that Bremen signed the striker in 2019 when he was injured “for a lot of money and we have always supported him in difficult times.”

Füllkrug has a contract with Bremen until June 2025, but has been the target of several clubs after strong performances in the Bundesliga and for the Germany national team.

Bundesliga rivals Bayer Leverkusen and Italy’s Fiorentina are among the clubs recently interested in the player.
