LONDON – British Prime Minister, Mr. Boris Johnson has resigned as Leader of the Conservative Party but said he will remain as Prime Minister until a new one will be appointed.

Boris Johnson who was addressing journalists at 10 Downing Street, said in a democratic system, nobody is indispensable and that the process to select a new Prime Minister should begin in earnest.

The British PM, whose speech is very brief unlike that of his predecessor said  the Conservative Party Leaders have made it very clear  that there should be a new leader.

As he puts it, a “herd instinct” at Westminster rejected his bid to stay on as party leader  and moved quickly, despite winning the biggest majority at the 2019 general election since 1987 and attracting new voters to his party, including former Labour supporters – he assembled in 2019 , which he said may break up without him to keep it together.

He also blamed bad  press for publicity, which he said  provoked mass resignations and a vote of no confidence but that he hadn’t persuaded colleagues that he should remain in office.
