August 16, 2015 – The Trade Union Congress(TUC) has attributed the death of Deputy Governor of Borno State, Alhaji Zannah Umar Mustapha to challenges confronting Nigeria.

In condolence letter, the TUC said the former deputy governor died of cardiac arrest and that it may not be out of place that he died as a result of the onslaught of Boko Haram, which it said had led to the death of his friends and others.

“We are informed that he died of cardiac arrest. This might not be unconnected with his deep concern over the plight of his friends, relations and innocent people of Borno and other neighbouring states kidnapped, killed or displaced by the Boko Haram insurgents. Indeed it may not be an overstatement to say that the challenges before the country killed Mr. Mustapha. Yes he died in active service”, the TUC said in the letter signed by Comrades Bobboi Kaigama and Musa Lawal, President and Secretary of the union.

The union expressed heartfelt condolences to the governor and the good people of Borno State, especially the family of the departed Deputy Governor, for the irreparable loss

“And may the great soul of Mr. Zannah Mustapha rest in perfect peace. Amen”, the TUC said , adding that it is with deep shock that the union received news of the demise of astute politician and Deputy Governor who died in his sleep in the morning of Saturday the 15th of August, 2015 in Yola the Adamawa State capital.

“We feel particularly grieved by his death, having observed with keen interest his efforts at ensuring that peace and tranquility are restored in Borno State and the rest of the North-Eastern part of the country.

“It is instructive that he was in Yola for two significant purposes: to attend the convocation ceremony of Modibbo Adama University of Science and Technology, Yola, and to follow up on his earlier visit to Yola in connection with the welfare of Borno State indigenes internally displaced as a result of the Boko Haram insurgency”, the union said.
