THE cauldrons of Buenos Aires are bubbling tonight, and it’s Boca Juniors who are serving up the heat.
In a clinical display of Primera Division dominance, the Xeneize brushed aside a resilient Instituto Cordoba 2-0, extending their formidable unbeaten run to eight matches. While the scoreline suggests a routine day at the office, this was a contest defined by individual brilliance and a midfield masterclass that had the Bombonera faithful in raptures.
After a tense opening half where chances went begging, it was the teenage sensation Tomás Aranda who shattered the deadlock in the 51st minute. Latching onto a delicate flick from Miguel “The Beast” Merentiel, Aranda showcased nerves of steel, feinting past his marker with a drop of the shoulder before rifling the ball home.
It was a goal that personified the new-look Boca under Claudio Úbeda—youthful, fearless, and devastatingly efficient.
If Aranda provided the spark, Adam Bareiro provided the fire. The Paraguayan powerhouse was a thorn in Instituto’s side all evening, battling center-backs and winning every aerial duel in his zip code.
His reward came just five minutes after the opener. Positioned perfectly as a classic ‘9’, Bareiro ghosted into the box to double the lead, effectively killing off any hope of a “Gloria” comeback. It was his second goal in as many games, proving he is fast becoming the indispensable spearhead of this attack.
While the forwards grabbed the headlines, the clean sheet was forged in the furnace of the Boca defense. Lautaro Di Lollo was nothing short of heroic, notably producing a lung-busting 100-meter recovery sprint to thwart a dangerous Instituto counter-attack.
Behind him, veteran keeper Agustín Marchesín was a human wall, producing two world-class saves in the second half to ensure the visitors left empty-handed.
With this victory, Boca climbs to 6th in the table, looking every bit like title contenders. For Instituto, it’s back to the drawing board after failing to breach a Blue and Gold defense that currently looks impenetrable.
