President Ahmed Conte has just announced that he is not running for a second term, thus setting the stage for alignment and intrigues in political circles in attempt to secure nomination of the Great Liberation Party.
Abdul Sherif, a very brutal fellow interested in the race is shocked when the President endorsed Nelson Kamara as his successor and decides to outwit the president.
Using blackmail and some form of inducement, he gets Nelson Karama out of the way. But when he thought that things were working out as planned, Hameed Kayiba, an unknown figure, young but full of prospects threw himself into the race and becomes very popular in a short while. Again Sherif sends his men after him, assaulted his wife, Sara and condemned his two legs.
Sara is demoralized. But will Abdul Sherif have his way? This is left for you to find out in The Next President, produced and directed by Desmond Eliot.
Rated 18 by the National Film and Video Censors Board, The Next President spotlights some of the heinous crimes committed by politicians in desperation to grab power. It is no doubt a good film. Pictures are clear, same with audio quality.
But it seems that Eliot allowed his background in soap opera to impact so much on the storyline. He could have done away with some of the scenes that have no direct bearing on the movie. Among those featured in the film are Desmond Eliot, TJ Cole and Jakie Appiah.
