June 4, 2015 – Five youths belonging to a violent gang in Lagos Island were shot dead by a rival group along Ajah road on Wednesday night over  battle for supremacy of leadership.

We gathered that the deceased along with other youths from Lagos Island went for naming ceremony at Ajah, a suburb of Lagos State on Wednesday afternoon and were returning home in a chartered  bus when another set of hoodlums opened fire on the bus, leading to death of five of the occupants, while the driver of the vehicle and one other youth  escaped by pretending to be dead.

We learnt that the deceased  who were boys working with the chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Oyebanji branch, Lagos Island, Alhaji Mustapha Adio Adekunle (aka. SEEGO) include, Samson (Songa), Ganiyu (Asaro), Idris (Aloma), Ladi and one other person.

When the news got to relatives of the deceased and Seego at the early hours of Thursday, a large group of hoodlums gathered and started attacking relatives of those boys believed to have been among the assailants on the Island.

Houses belonging to Olokodana family on the Island were touched by the miscreants who claimed to be protesting the brutal killing of the five boys. Also, residence and lock-up shop belonging to one Tunde (Alalbi Yellow) who was alleged to have caused the killing was invaded by the hoodlums who burnt all the properties.

According to sources,  trouble started last Sunday on the Island when Seego and another leader, a notorious boy identified as Tunde (Alabi Yellow) met at a social gathering where Seego asked Yellow to bow in his honour,  but  he refused.

We gathered that Seego then ordered his boys to deal with Yellow by breaking bottle on his head. They also tore his cloth. We learnt that the deceased were ambushed by supporters of Yellow in a reprisal attack at Ajah.

Our source added that the attackers also cut off the head of Samson (Songa), believed to be the one that broke the bottle  on the head of Yellow on the order of Seego at the social gathering last Sunday.

Confirming the incident, Police Public Relations officer, Lagos Command, Ken Nwosu claimed that two of the youths died and two others who sustained bullet injury were presently at an undisclosed hospital where they are receiving urgent medical attention.

He added that the police authorities have sent out men for surveillance to track down the suspects and bring them to book.

It would be recalled that the Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode has just made a public pronouncement that all those in possession of  illegal guns  should submit them within two weeks.

Meanwhile, traders at Odunfa, Onola, Oyebanji, Adeniji Adele, Evans, Atiko and adjacent streets have to quickly pack their goods and lock-up their shop so as to avert any attack.

We gathered that Seego who has doled out money to the youths for the reprisal attack also gave out about six buses to convey them to the Lagos State House, Alausa-Ikeja to protest with placards that  ‘PDP’ thugs were the killers.
