OZUBULU, Nnewi, Anambra, Nigeria – It was in the sanctuary of God, specifically, the Catholic Church, Ozubulu Parish in Nnewi that gunmen chose to strike early this Sunday morning, shedding the blood of dozens of worshipers who had gathered to beseech God.
At least 30 worshippers were killed when the gunmen stormed the church during the 6am mass. According to eye witness, the gunmen opened fire soon after they gained access to the church and started shoting sporadically at worshippers.
The incident caused panic as worshippers run here and there in a bid to hide away from the attackers.
It was not clear what the motive of the attackers was, but the whole church was littered with blood with many laying lifeless on the floor.
Those dead have been deposited in the mortuary.
